Cost transparency
Given that the cost per ticket is sliding scale from $1,250 to $4,000, we understand that the amount of money we are charging to attend this event will be inaccessible to many. We are working on other ways to make this content more accessible in the future, however for the purpose of this event there are some baseline costs that are required to facilitate this experience. We have decided to have as much cost transparency as possible to be clear in our intentions regarding the cost of tickets. The cost information are as follows:
Cost of catering and venue rentals for all 4 days: $2,325
Cost of gift package for all participants that will have the materials needed to participate both during the workshop and beyond, as well as some additional goodies (such as art made by small businesses): $757
Miscellaneous items needed during the event (such as respirator masks, tissues, hand sanitizer, art supplies, fidget toys, etc): $329
Expenses for avé to travel and stay in Portland for the duration of the workshop: $965
Target donation for The Chúush Fund: Water for Warm Springs: $700
Consultation with a lawyer: $325
Paying a small business owned by a queer/Black/Muslim community member to design the website for the event: $150
2 month subscription for the website domain: $34
Misc. unexpected expenses safety net fund (intended for expenses that we may not have considered or may come up on short notice. Any money not spent on this fund will be donated to The Chúush Fund: Water for Warm Springs fundraiser in addition to the previously identified target goal): $500
The total of these expenses comes to $6,085 to break even on this event.
We will need at minimum 5 participants (with a maximum of 13 participants) to attend at the lowest sliding scale to break even on the anticipated expenses. This doesn't consider avé and Noor paying themselves for the hundreds of hours of labor that has been invested in this workshop since early November 2025, or the taxes that will be paid on the gross income for any profit that comes in beyond $6,085.
Given this information, we hope you can understand the reasoning for the cost for the tickets. We are not equipped to assess your finances and decide what sum of money is most appropriate for your financial resources. We trust that you will honor your own financial capacity/degree of privilege, while also considering our risk of paying for many of these expenses up front, the amount of labor we have poured into this learning experience over the course of 9 months, and our collective decades of relevant experience/expertise.
